Venturing out of the tourist trap that Memphis was, we headed away from bright lights and all things Elvis and drove out to Lebanon. Where? 
Yeah we know it’s not exactly on the list of must-see things in Tennessee but this is the home of Blue Moon BBQ and that’s worth a trip to the good ol’ USA all by itself. You know it’s going to be good when the local fire crew arrive just before you to place their order and the staff already know their favourite dishes.
The joint itself is full of memorabilia, the kind of thing which you can’t stop looking at and hoping that other diners don’t think you’re looking at them. Don’t expect posh table settings, that’s not what this place is about. Expect wipe clean tablecloths, rolls of kitchen towels and to help yourself to cutlery and condiments.
Imagine top quality cuts of meat which are slow cooked over hickory wood, for up to 14 hours each and every day. Add in their secret rub, hand prep it all and the chuck in an award-winning sauce.
It’s not just meats either, we also sampled the catfish taco which was full of flavour but don’t expect it to be like UK fish in batter, this is super thin and crunchy.
For the two sides which came with the taco, we selected sweet potato waffle fries (wouldn’t pick those again, a little tasteless) and mac ‘n cheese (which we would pick again, full of taste) $8.99 all in.
So the meat, fall apart tender, full of taste and prepped in front of your eyes. We went for the beef brisket and pulled pork with texas toast, mac ‘n cheese and fries which came to the grand total of $11.99.
Not familiar with Texas Toast? We weren’t either but imagine a cross between toast and fried bread cooked in the meat juices and you have the most jaw-dropping accompaniment to mop up your hot BBQ sauce with.
Keep a lookout for Groupon deals, we had a voucher which made the meal even cheaper than the prices detailed above. FLS likes a bargain and great food at a great price has to be up there with the best things in life!
