D2L MNSU An Introduction
Minnesota State University Mankato’s D2L offers its students and faculty a Desire2Learn site, delivered through Brightspace.
What is D2L MNSU?
Classes at Minot State University are now available through the D2L Brightspace system.
Teachers from across campus have been working to convert their courses from old websites and other tools into a brand new platform that is easy to use for students and teachers alike.
What is Brightspace D2L?
The D2L Brightspace system is made up of several tools that can be used to create course materials, including discussion boards, quizzes, tests and other activities. D2L is the abbreviation for Desire2Learn.
Is Brightspace the same as D2L?
D2L is the company, Brightspace is the LMS (they changed the name of the LMS from D2L to Brightspace in 2015. However they decided to continue to call the system D2L) and that’s what people know it as.

How Do I Access A Class Using This System?
To access the meeting, click on the meeting link located within your LMS and you will be taken to the meeting lobby page. Click Enter Meeting Room to join the meeting

What Do The MNSU Staff think?
“It’s a little more user-friendly,” said Andrea Muhlbauer, a professor of music education. “There is a more modern design.”
“From my standpoint as a teacher, I’m looking forward to using the new D2L Brightspace,” said Muhlbauer. “It has more functionality.
The new Brightspace system offers many features almost identical to those on Facebook or Twitter, which students are already familiar with using. In the past, MNSU courses have been spread out across multiple platforms and different communication methods. With Brightspace, everything students need is in one place.
“It’s a more cohesive system as opposed to everything being separated,” said Muhlbauer. “It really brings everything together.”
The new Brightspace system has allowed teachers and students to communicate better than ever before, and students now have the benefit of seeing their instructors post important information or news in one place rather than trying to find it on scattered websites or social media profiles.
“It’s all in one place,” said Muhlbauer. “Students, and teachers too, can post announcements right where everyone is looking.”
Looking Forward
Not only does the new Brightspace system allow for more cohesive communication between students and instructors, but it also pushes students to be better prepared for their classes. With the new tools, teachers can see how well their students are learning and if they understand concepts or need help in a certain area.
“It tells me straight away if a student is struggling,” said Muhlbauer. “They’re going to have a much easier time staying on top of things.”
The new D2L Brightspace system is available for all Minot State University courses. This includes online courses and face-to-face classes.
“From what I can tell, there’s no reason it wouldn’t be compatible,” said Muhlbauer. “I’ve been very happy with D2L in the past, so it seems like an upgrade to me.”
