Pappy Van Poodle Uncovered
Pappy Van Poodle is a character from Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball on the Nintendo 3DS. He only appears if the player does not negotiate with Rusty Slugger. He is a pug that dresses as a business man and sells fake ‘blue orbs’ (he sells the infinite, 10% discount red orbs for $100 each). He becomes furious when he goes out of his way to make up numerous lies and it all comes crashing down. He is also considered one of the more difficult characters in the game to convince since he is very stubborn and doesn’t like to negotiate with Rusty. If you do manage to convince him into negotiating, his offer is one blue orb for 500 dollars.
Pappy Van Poodle was first introduced by Nintendo on July 19, 2013 via their Miiverse channel without any prior announcements. Nintendo’s simple introduction along with his appearance in-game made many consumers think that Pappy was some sort of real-life promotion, which he isn’t. A few days later on July 21st, Nintendo confirmed that Pappy is a character from Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball and acknowledged his popularity among fans by adding him as an icon to the game’s official Miiverse community.
Nintendo has posted fan art of Pappy in their Miiverse channels and even created trophies for him and other characters in the latest Super Smash Bros Wii U:

The Pug Who Thinks He’s Boss – Awarded to the winner of the Smash Bros. Online Fan Poll! Appears in: Wii U and 3DS versions Tip: He uses radar to sniff out opponents who are hiding nearby.

Papyrus from Undertale has a theme song called “Beloved Tomboyish Dog” that starts out with what sounds like Miispeak before breaking into English. This theme song was featured in the game’s trailer. It is believed that this is a nod to Pappy who shares similar personality traits with Papyrus (e.g.: living underground, dog ears, fashion soul).
